Cisco's star end-to-end customer, Royal Bank of Scotland, does NOT have 'Good Enough" Network according to its CEO!

Royal Bank of ScotlandCiscoA little more than 2-years ago, Cisco CEO heir apparent Rob Lloyd made a very, very big deal about Cisco's star end-to-end customer:

The Royal Bank of Scotland

So how big a deal was Cisco's star end-to-end customer, The Royal Bank of Scotland?

Well, two of top technology executives at The Royal Bank of Scotland:

  1. George Kelsey - Head of Technology Solutions, The Royal Bank of Scotland
  2. Darren Buckley - Director of Network Transformation, The Royal Bank of Scotland
Were the featured customers who spoke on Cisco's live IPTV broadcast:

Cisco to Debunk the Myth of the 'Good Enough' Network

"On Wednesday, April 27, 2011 Cisco will host a live IPTV broadcast to debunk the Myth of the 'Good Enough' Network by outlining the seven most common misperceptions about taking a tactical, multi-vendor approach to building business-critical networks. The webcast will be hosted by Rob Lloyd, Cisco's executive vice president of worldwide operations, and will feature executives from The Royal Bank of Scotland."

So what were the key points made by the top technology executives at The Royal Bank of Scotland and Cisco?

  • "IT industry trends driving the evolution of the network."
  • "Common misperceptions about taking a 'good enough' approach to networking."
  • "Real world benefits of investing in the network as a strategic asset and innovation engine."

Ross McEwanRob LloydFast forward to this week with the following NBC News headline:

Royal Bank of Scotland admits decades of IT neglect after systems crash

"Royal Bank of Scotland has neglected its technology for decades, the state-backed bank's boss admitted on Tuesday after a system crash left more than 1 million customers unable to withdraw cash or pay for goods."

Ross McEwan the CEO of The Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) made the following statement yesterday:

"For decades, RBS failed to invest properly in its systems. We need to put our customers' needs at the centre of all we do. It will take time, but we are investing heavily in building IT systems our customers can rely on."

I mean, I just don't get it!

The top technology executives of The Royal Bank of Scotland were the star Cisco end-to-end customers that were featured on Cisco's most aggressive marketing campaign in its history:

Cisco to Debunk the Myth of the 'Good Enough' Network

And now we learn directly from the CEO of The Bank of Scotland (RBS) that Cisco's star end-to-end customer, The Royal Bank of Scotland, does NOT even have anything close to a 'Good Enough" Network!

I mean, did The Royal Bank of Scotland spend so much money on Cisco equipment that it had NONE to invest in its IT department?
