How to configure power supply redundancy in Cisco Catalyst 4500 switches
Wed, 11/17/10 - 11:59pm    View how to tips and comments

CiscoCisco Catalyst 4500 series switches provide 1+1 redundancy for power supply. All 4500 chassis support this power supply redundancy feature, but only between power supplies of equal wattage and type (AC/DC). Mixing of power supplies is not supported.

By default, power supply management mode is set to redundant mode.

Issue the show power command. If the power supply needed by the system is 1, the switch is in redundant mode. If the power supply needed by the system is 2, the switch is in combined mode.

Redundant mode uses one power supply as a primary power supply and the second power supply as a back-up. Both power supplies must be the same wattage, and a single power supply must have enough power to support the switch configuration.
