The world's most successful secondary Cisco reseller, Mike Sheldon, has initiated a new blog, Network Resolutions - on Network World's Cisco Subnet, and has rapidly become the target of Cisco's fanboys.
Full disclosure: BradReese.Com supports Mike Sheldon and his efforts to promote the secondary Cisco market. BradReese.Com cofounder, sales and repair manager - Reggie Grant, is a board director of the secondary networking equipment trade association - UNEDA, United Network Equipment Dealers Association, that works in conjunction with Mike Sheldon in his efforts to improve the secondary Cisco market (Mike's a cofounder and the former president of UNEDA).
So exactly how is Mike becoming the target of Cisco's fanboys?
Well, take for example Mike's second Network World blog post:
"I see HP making some smart moves in its goal to take out Cisco."
Immediately, Cisco's fanboys began an all out assault on Mike with the following comments:
"The 'Cisco Subnet' is being dropped from my daily must-look sites as long as you allow Mike's infomercials for the secondary market."
"This is a bunch of marketing BS drivel. I truly hope this guy gets canned as fast as he arrived."
"Network World editors - why aren't you doing your job and rejecting rubbish like this? Where's the quality journalism?"
"This entire article is completely inaccurate. I'm suprised and disappointed with Network World. Who is this guy Mike Sheldon? I certainly hope Network World wakes up and fires him. He belongs with the National Enquirer."
"It's all a bit advert, come on Network World - where is your integrity?"
Interestingly last month, and obviously not going to be favorably looked upon by the Cisco fanboys, Mike reported the results of UNEDA's secondary Cisco market survey:
Nearly 40 percent of the respondents (1,200 North American Organizations) reported an expected increase in purchasing pre-owned network equipment in 2010.
Nearly 80 percent of those polled already use equipment purchased from the secondary market in their production network environments.
61 percent are fueling network expansions with secondary equipment.
The top five reasons cited for relying on an alternative procurement channel for network equipment:
Responsiveness
Product availability
Rapid delivery
Savings over OEM pricing
Warranties
Nearly 40 percent of the respondents currently protect only core network equipment with Cisco SMARTnet maintenance.
31 percent of those surveyed will or have eliminated maintenance on some hardware to save money.
Nearly 25 percent will or already have replaced Cisco SMARTnet in favor of more cost-effective options.
