From an Alcatel-Lucent vantage point, the findings are very positive. And I thank the Lippis and Ixia teams for conducting the industry's first independent tests of 10 and 40 GbE switches. The results validate the low latency and overall performance claims we made when we introduced our Data Center Switching Blueprint built around OmniSwitch 6900 and 10K.
It's worth noting that the performance of the boxes alone reveals but a piece of the puzzle. What is most important to enterprises is the big-picture, long-term roadmap for their networks. It's this blueprint that we feel offers a different perspective. When we introduced the OmniSwitch 6900 in April 2011, we didn't just introduce a new switch.
We rolled out a bold vision for a complete data center switching solution.
The significance of our Data Center Switching Blueprint was recognized by the industry at Interop, where it received a coveted "Best of Interop" award. In December 2011, we delivered on our promise to our customers delivering 40GigE to the market, and making available the industry's only solution that provides all the pieces enterprises needed to transform their legacy architectures into industry-leading, next-generation cloud-ready data centers.
At the end of the day, enterprise customers want solutions, not individual boxes. They want a solution that will help them achieve their short-term goals while also providing a path to the future. One that will allow them to leverage new technologies as they emerge, build their networks at whatever pace works for their organization and is readily adaptable to any size organization, regardless of how large or how small.
In the below video, I spoke with Nick Lippis about cloud network architecture and what's unique about the new OmniSwitch 6900-X40:
