Cisco has purchased the domain name Collaborate.Com

Cisco immediately terminated sales from its new website:

"Collaborate is no longer available for sale via Collaborate.com, the App Store, or Google Play."

Collaborate.ComCiscoToday Cisco gushed:

"On December 17, 2013 Cisco announced the acquisition of Collaborate.com, a cloud-based team collaboration platform that unifies messaging, document sharing, and task management in a single, easy-to-use mobile app for iPhone, Android and the Web.

Simultaneously, the Wall Street Journal gushed:

"By allowing Collaborate.com employees to work out of Cisco's San Francisco Innovation Center office, the company is hoping that its new acquisition can keep the startup fire going.

"The office, light years removed, culturally, from Cisco's sprawling headquarters in San Jose, channels a startup-vibe with an open floor plan, a fully stocked kitchen serving a free daily lunch and healthy snacks, and the requisite toys: skateboards, ping pong table and even a pair of unicycles."

In my opinion, it's all total bunk.

How so?

Well, Cisco immediately terminated sales from its new website:

"Collaborate is no longer available for sale via Collaborate.com, the App Store, or Google Play."

View the Collaborate home page prior to its purchase by Cisco.

Heck, there were free trials, getting started buttons, developers, pricing and upgrade links that are now gone!

Signaling to me that this is merely the purchase of a domain name and nothing more.

Interestingly, one of the Collaborate founders was a former associate of Network World's famous blogger, Alan Shimel.
